Beatrix Potter -
Born Helen Beatrix Potter on 28th July 1866. Died 22nd December
1943.
She was an English author, illustrator and
conservationist. And best known for her children's stories about
animals and her much loved 'Peter Rabbit'. This she wrote when in
her thirties and wrote and illustrated a total of 23 children's
books. |

Mary Louisa
Molesworth - Born 29th May 1839. Died 20th
January 1921.
She
is
best known for girls books,
those too old for fairies but
not old enough for
more adult literature.
She
wrote with great
sympathy and insight, showing
a
deep understanding of
children's problems together
with
fun and mischief.

Lyman Frank Baum -
Born May 15 1856. Died May 6th 1919.
He is best
known as the creator of the children's book series of 'The Wonderful
Wizard of Oz' 13 sequels in all. The last 'Oz' book being
'Glinda of Oz' and was published after his death in 1920. He had a
number of pseudonyms for his non-Oz books. Some
of which you will find here. |
Andrew Lang - Born 31st March 1844. Died 20th
July 1912.
He is best known as a collector of folk and
fairy tales. He kept the children's imaginations alive! His
'Blue Fairy Tales' book has become a
classic. You will find that one
and all his others here! The 'Pink', 'Red', 'Yellow'
, 'Lilac', 'Green' just to name a
few! |

Frances
Elizabeth Hodgson - Born November 24 1849. Died October 29
1924.
Author of fantasy and children's literature. She
is best known for The Secret Garden, A Little Princess and Little
Lord Fauntleroy. Born in Manchester England, she emigrated to
Tennessee, United States with her mother and siblings in 1865. 2
years later, at the age of 18, her mother died leaving her to bring
up her younger siblings. She started writing to support them and in
1873, she married Dr Swan Burnett. In 1877, her first novel was
published.

Thornton Waldo
Burgess Born January 14 1874. Died June
5 1965.
Author of children's stories who loved the
beauty of nature and it's living ceatures that he wrote about them
for 50 years. His stories came from his outdoor observations of
nature. In his very 1st book, Old Mother West Wind, the readers met
many of his characters in his following books, each with their
own adventures. His books were published around the world and in
many
